Utsav is a Bollywood movie released in 1984. It was directed by Girish Karnad and produced by Shashi Kapoor and Vijay Kapoor. The film stars Rekha, Amjad Khan, and Shankar Nag in lead roles.
The film is based on the ancient Sanskrit play Mrichchhakatika (The Little Clay Cart) by Shudraka. It tells the story of a courtesan named Vasantsena (played by Rekha) who falls in love with a young Brahmin man named Charudatta (played by Shankar Nag). However, Vasantsena is also being pursued by the evil king's minister (played by Amjad Khan), who is determined to possess her at any cost.
Utsav was critically acclaimed for its beautiful cinematography, impressive performances by the lead actors, and its faithful adaptation of the original play. The film's music was composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal and the songs, particularly "Man Kyun Behka Re Behka Aadhi Raat Ko" and "Saat Samundar Paar Se", became quite popular. Utsav was not a commercial success at the time of its release, but it has since gained a cult following and is considered a classic of Indian cinema.
