MUSIC CONCERTS

Genesis

A progressive rock-oriented band that produced some of the most enjoyed rock songs. Genesis started in school with Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Anthony Phillips, Mike Rutherford as well as Chris Stewart. They decided to merge their bands that split up and make songs. Their initial songs as well as albums were all critical failures and failed to gather a significant audience. By 1969 they started rehearsing and setting up gigs locally across London. Their second album Trespass also did not make it to the top though it was number 1 in Belgium. Anthony Phillips left the band because of his ailment and stage fright. Phil Collins joined the group as a drummer replacing Phillips. The 1970s saw their first-ever international gig in Belgium. Their album Nursery Cryme released in 1971 became a critical success reaching number 39 in the UK and number 4 in Italy. Their fourth album Foxtrot came out in 1972 and reached number 12 in the UK and number 1 in Italy. They toured to promote foxtrot in Europe and North America. They achieved a lot of critical and commercial success with their upcoming albums as members left and were replaced, they maintained a balance.

The concert displayed here is from Shepperton Studios October 1973 one of the initial concerts that gained their success, they were promoting Foxtrot one of their initially successful albums.
