What started as No Romance in China ran as the Composition of sound and finally became Depeche Mode. They were performing live when Daniel Miller the founder of Mute Records approached them. With him, they released their first single Dreaming of me which charted well on the Billboard charts. They later released their second single called New Life which charted at number 11 on the Billboard charts. Their debut album Speak and Spell was very well received. Vince Clarke left the band in 1981 which led to the hiring of a new member Alan Wilder. Their new songs were written by Martin Gore and their new songs were very successful. A broken frame was their second album which did not include wilder. Their third-ever album Construction time again had wilder and was very well received. Despite their music success, their records did not sell very well. They gained even more international fame with their subsequent albums and singles.
The concert featured was live from Hammersmith London in October 1982. The band was touring to promote their second album A Broken Frame. This was their way of proving that they could do well without Clarke who left the band in 1981.
