They started as a high school group that played cover songs in Ireland. Initially called Feedback and later The Hype the name U2 was suggested by Steve Averill a punk rock musician. The group won a talent contest in Limerick which awarded them an opportunity to record with CBS studio. Hot Press an Irish magazine was very supportive of the group and introduced them to Paul McGuinness who became their manager and helped them with gigs. They took a huge risk and played at the national stadium Dublin which had a seating of 2000 people. This risk paid off and the concert was very well received. Their first-ever album Boy charted at number 52 in the UK and number 63 in the US. Their second album October though unsuccessful sold well in the UK charting at number 11 The band was so disappointed by the album that they decided to do better next time. The next album War was the international success they were waiting for, it charted at number 1 on the UK charts. The tour for War was one of their most profitable tours to date.
The tour here is live from 1981 Berlin Kant Kino. The band can be seen promoting and touring for their album The Boy. They received very positive reviews from audiences and critics alike for their stage show.
