Jack Terri witnesses a real - life tragedy while recording sound effects for a slasher movie: a car crashing off a bridge and into a river. The other passenger, a governor planning to run for president, is already dead when Jack dives into the sea and pulls Sally from the vehicle. Jack becomes caught up in a complicated scheme as he investigates his cassettes and begins a dangerous relationship with Sally.
