Prince Akeem is the ruler of a prosperous African nation, and the only thing he lacks is a woman who will accept him despite his position. With the help of his finicky sidekick Semmi, Akeem flees to America to find his queen in order to avoid an arranged marriage. He falls for Lisa while posing as a foreign student working at a fast food restaurant, but he has trouble telling her who he really is and how he plans to propose to her to his king father.
