On Christmas Eve, New York City police officer John McClane pays a visit to his two daughters and divorced wife. He attends a holiday party with her at the corporate office of the Japanese - owned company she works for. However, a squad of terrorists attack the elite high - rise and everyone inside, interrupting the celebrations. McClane quickly comes to the conclusion that he is the only person who can save the hostages.
