Detective John McClane lost his job due to his careless actions and negative attitude, and is now divorced, an alcoholic, and unemployed. But when a mysterious terrorist holds New York City hostage in a deadly game of "Simon Says," and will only talk to McClane, he is forced back into action. Together with street - smart electrician Zeus Carver, McClane races through the city in an effort to avoid being caught up in a homicidal scheme.
