Inept best friends Harry Dunne and Lloyd Christmas discover a suitcase full of cash that Mary Swanson left behind in Harry's car while she was her route to the airport. Despite not knowing that the money is related to a kidnapping, the pair decides to travel to Aspen, Colorado, to return it. Their friendship and intelligence are put to the test as hired killers and police chase Harry and Lloyd—who has fallen in love with Mary—across the nation.
