A scientist creates the kind Edward, an animated person. However, the scientist passes away before he can complete putting Edward together, leaving the boy with a bizarre appearance that is emphasised by the scissor blades he has in place of hands. Edward is found by loving suburban saleswoman Peg, who brings him home where he develops feelings for Peg's teenage daughter. Edward is an outcast because of his hands despite his goodwill and talent as an artist.
