After killing his mistress, a well-respected Italian police investigator finds himself involved in the subsequent homicide inquiry. While his colleague's cops either ignore or fail to notice his evident tampering, the inspector continues to place clues at the crime scene. But things are not as they seem. The murderer appears to be testing the skill and honesty of Italian law enforcement, even if he may have inside information on creating his own innocence.
