Paleontologist Jack Prescott climbs onboard a research ship headed to investigate an island said to be rich in oil because he has heard strange legends about the place. The crew saves Dwan, the only survivor of a shipwreck, en way. When they get there, they discover that the locals are terrified of a monster by the name of Kong. Dwan is taken hostage by the tribesmen, who then sacrifice her to a gigantic ape. The ape is eventually kidnapped for a gala exhibit, and Dwan is saved.
