King Lear

1971 Directed by Peter Brook

The haughty King Lear asks his three daughters for praise in exchange for the right to inherit the throne. Daughters Goneril and Regan fervently declare their love for one another. Cordelia doesn't make fun of her father because she doesn't respect the method he's chosen. Due to Cordelia's apparent rejection by Lear, he banishes her, dividing the kingdom between the other two. His hurried choice proves to be his greatest mistake.
