Los Angeles yuppie David Howard persuades his wife Linda to quit her work and go on a cross - country road trip with him after being rejected at his advertising job. In an effort to find themselves and learn more about America, the two sell up their belongings and travel to the West Coast in a Winnebago. However, the couple discovers during a stay in Las Vegas that their romanticised view of the American experience is seriously wrong when they lose all of their savings playing the roulette wheel.
