Shakespeare's play about a Scottish lord who kills the king and takes the throne is reimagined by Roman Polanski. Due to her guilt complex, his wife subsequently starts having hallucinations, and the deceased king's son plans an attack on Macbeth to reveal him for the killer that he is.
