Edgar Allan Poe's "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" is being staged in 19th-century Paris by theatrical tycoon Cesar Charron. His wife Madeleine has been having terrible dreams because of the spooky play. When Cesar's performers begin dying, they turn out to be a foreboding prophecy of the future. Cesar believes René Marot, his arch-enemy, is responsible for the murders. Marot's passing presents the only issue with his theory.
