Police suspect foul play when socialite Sunny von Bülow mysteriously enters an irreparable coma; her urbane husband Claus is the prime suspect. Claus is given a retrial after being found guilty of murder and employs flamboyant Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz as his attorney. Despite still doubtful of Claus' innocence, Dershowitz likes a challenge and attempts to have the verdict reversed with a number of his pupils.
