Jaime Escalante, a high school teacher in Los Angeles, is harassed by challenging pupils like Angel Guzman. But Jaime also feels pressure from his superiors, who want him to manage his rowdy class. He chooses to immerse his kids in higher math since he is caught in the middle. After months of preparation, his students ace the calculus exam in California, only to find out that their results are being contested. To appease the naysayers, they will need to repeat the exam.
