In the distant future, school-going children are encouraged to gain citizenship by enlisting in the military. Young Johnny Rico has a beautiful girlfriend, a successful high school football reputation as well as a rich family status. His girlfriend Carmen wishes to be a pilot for the army and fearing separation he too enlists in the army. However, Johnny and Carmen are separated since he is listening in the infantry and her in the fleet. Johnny later learns that an asteroid destroyed his home and city, this asteroid is from a planet where giant alien bugs have taken control. Enraged Johnny is determined to eradicate these bugs. A mobile fleet is sent to another planet to declare war on this alien species. But little do they know about the true motives of these creatures.
