Willie and Eddie, two layabouts from New York City, survive on beer and TV dinners paid for through careless card - sharking. Willie receives an unwanted visit from his Hungarian teenage cousin Eva, but just as he starts to get to know her, she leaves for Cleveland to be with her aunt. Willie and Eddie decide on the spur of the moment to drive to Florida in search of fortune and paradise—or at the very least, an end to their never - ending boredom. They do this to pick up Eva.
