For a fun night away, Ashley "Ash" Williams, his fiancée, and three friends go into the woods to a cabin. There they discover the Necronomicon, an ancient book whose text, when spoken aloud, brings the dead back to life. Inadvertently unleashing a wave of evil, the companions are forced to fight for their lives or perish alongside the evil dead. In this, the first instalment of Sam Raimi's trilogy, Ash witnesses his companions becoming possessed and must make a difficult choice before dawn to save his own life.
